The 5 Rules For Healthy Living By Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn was known (and loved) for many things. Aside from being an accomplished film and fashion icon, she was also a humanitarian.

One thing she was not, however, was a health expert. But that doesn’t mean she didn’t know anything about the subject. In fact, her five rules for healthy living made a lot of sense—and that’s exactly what we’ll talk about today.

Let’s get started!

Rule #1: Drink Lots of Water

You’ve probably heard this one before—a lot. Apparently, Audrey Hepburn did too and decided to follow it.

But why is staying hydrated so important anyway? Well, according to a post by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, drinking enough water helps:

  • Prevent infections
  • Improve focus
  • Keep your organs functioning at peak capacity
  • Improve the quality of your sleep
  • And so much more

Rule #2: Eat Less Meat

Aside from drinking a lot of water, Audrey Hepburn also kept her meat intake very low. In fact, about 80% of her diet consisted of fruits and vegetables.

Should you do this too? It depends on your personal preferences. If you’re going to do it, though, just make sure you get enough protein and healthy fats in your diet from things like soy and nuts, especially if you work out regularly.

Rule #3: Don’t Be Afraid of Growing Old

For Audrey Hepburn, growing old was just another season of life to be enjoyed, not feared. And she was right. As long as you take care of yourself while you’re young, growing old isn’t really that bad.

Rule #4: Eat More Potatoes

Audrey Hepburn loved potatoes (who doesn’t, right?). Aside from fruits and vegetables, they were her favourite source of carbohydrates. But if you want something a little more nutritious, you could go for sweet potatoes instead.

Rule #5: Learn to Enjoy the Little Things

Contrary to what the content people post on social media suggest, you don’t actually need a lot to be happy. Do what Audrey Hepburn did and learn to enjoy the simpler things, like a hot cup of coffee in the morning or spending quality time with your family. You’d be so much happier.

So, Will These Rules Work for You Too?

That depends on your specific preferences and goals. Regardless, these rules are a pretty good starting point, so go ahead and give them a shot. You can always just tweak them to better suit your needs along the way anyway.
