People are often weary about walking into a Martial Arts club for the first time, sometimes I hear people asking questions like:

  • Do I need to be fit to get started?
  • Do I need any experience to start training Martial Arts?
  • I’m concerned I’ll get injured, will it be dangerous?
 

People’s perceived first experience can be the most intimidating part of training. The perception that it is a dangerous activity can be the biggest barrier to starting.

However, this could not be further from the truth! Martial arts is actually a very safe activity when you start out in the right class with a qualified instructor.

 

In this article, we will dispel some of the myths about martial arts, and discuss why it is such a great way to get fit and stay healthy. We will also provide tips on how to choose the right martial arts school for you.

One of the biggest misconceptions about martial arts is that it is a violent sport. While martial arts does involve some physical contact, it is not about violence. In fact, martial arts is all about discipline, respect, and self-control.

The goal of martial arts is to perfect your technique so that you can defend yourself or others if necessary, but not to hurt anyone unnecessarily.


Another common misconception about martial arts is that it is only for people who are already in shape. This could not be further from the truth! Martial arts is a great way to get fit, regardless of your starting level of fitness.

 

The key is to find a martial arts school that offers classes at your level.

You should also make sure to ask the instructor if they can provide modifications for any exercises that may be too difficult for you.
